DC Veterans Affairs Hospital
My clinical rotation at the DC Veteran's Affairs hospital was a great learning experience! It was my first time working with other dietitians in a hospital, and thanks to them, I've grown tremendously as a dietetic intern. I was able to rotate through the Medical-Surgical, Medical, Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), and Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) floors, as well as spend a week in outpatient nutrition. I was able to screen and assess patients, complete "ADIME" (Assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitor and evaluation) notes, and become familiar with the hospital environment. |
Children's National Medical Center (CNMC)
I had a wonderful time working with two outpatient dietitians at CNMC for 2 weeks. I gained experience counseling young patients and parents, helping them set achievable goals. Most of the patients came for diabetes management and weight-loss, so I picked up new goal-setting skills in tackling those issues. View my Pediatric Case Study below! |
DaVita
I had a great week shadowing a dietitian at a DaVita hemodialysis facility. I learned more about the specific needs for patients with kidney disease and saw hemodialysis machines in person for the first time! I even educated patients on the need to limit their phosphorus intake while handing out low-phosphorus snacks! |
